Hi all, it’s our one year anniversary! So it seems fitting that I’m here to tell you about some major changes in the way things are done around here.
I’m very grateful to everyone who reads and especially to those who comment. It means a great deal to me that you are looking forward to following my characters as they get themselves in and out of trouble in Night City. Thank you all, as always.
Here’s the deal: I’m going to be transforming this comic into a more text-based format. Somewhat like an illustrated serialized novel, if you will. Illustrations are still slated to appear, but they will be much less frequent. I cherish both chapter one and chapter two, and I think Heather and Nilah’s chapters are fantastic. The reasoning for the change is manifold. The first and best reason is that I believe that working in text will enable the story to come to you much quicker and in more detail than it ever could as a webcomic. I believe text touches upon senses which are much easier to convey through the written word as opposed to imagery. Really, all I’m doing here is expounding the virtues of written stories, but this applies to CyberGen 2027 in particular because as I’ve gone ahead with the story, I’ve realized that it’s got a much greater scope and depth than I initially counted on. I want to convey all of that to you as best I am able.
Oh and just in case there’s any doubt: when the story begins again it will pick up where it left off with Comet joining Jade and Mydnight as Raptors.
And don’t worry about Heather and Nilah. Heather’s pursuing acting, and Nilah, with her degree in animation, is going for her first love: the animation field! You may still see their art here from time to time, if they’ve got room in their schedules for us.
However, all of these changes require a lot of working parts to fall into place – including legal odds and ends. To that end, I don’t know when exactly I will be able to post again – I am hoping it will be sometime in June, but that may not be the case. I will of course announce our return on Twitter, the RSS Feed, and Facebook, but should you find that you don’t like/don’t have/don’t frequent those methods of keeping in touch, you can feel free to send your e-mail address to shapeshifterstudios @ Cybergen2027.com. I will e-mail you ONE TIME ONLY to let you know when we’re back online. So don’t worry about getting inundated in updates.
In the meantime, I will continue to post the color pages as they arrive – and Nilah is working on a cover for chapter 2. This Thursday, I will be posting an image and a profile of Bri’s CyberGeneration character, as drawn by Heather. The offer to draw other denizens of Night City (or Denver or Daytona or whatever city you find yourself trying to escape in 2027) is still on the table. If you have a CyberGeneration character, send their description to the e-mail address above!
And while we’re on the subject of CyberGeneration the roleplaying game, I’m very pleased to announce that I am currently working as a writer for Jonathan Lavallee of Firestorm Ink on Version 3 of the main sourcebook. ^_^ If you have ideas, send them our way, we’re eager to hear your thoughts, suggestions, or wishes for the third version of my favorite roleplaying game.
Lots of changes, lots of writing to do, a little waiting. I am happy to have had you along on our journey so far, and if you choose to stay, I will welcome you with open arms. If not, then peace be with you and all of the best on your path.
